ABSTRACT

he importance of brackish water lagoon, Chilika for hotspot of biodiversity inAsian continent was studied vigorously to value the water quality forconservation of biodiversity. The water quality index for biodiversity (WQIB) isthe measurement tool used for assessment of biodiversity. The study covers 16sampling locations for the selected parameters to monitor monthly during theperiod (2011- 2015). The individual sectors of the lagoon possess uniquecharacteristics. The water quality of northern sector highly deterioratedcompared to other sectors. Water quality of the outer channel is least infected. The study highlighted that the summer season is the best period for enrichmentof biodiversity and monsoon is the worst period for the biodiversity conservation.
